Budget Board

Budget Board is an open-source application for personal finance management designed for self-hosting. It provides a centralized system to manage various financial accounts, including checking, savings, and credit cards, while also allowing users to track physical assets such as property and other valuables. The software enables users to record and categorize individual transactions to monitor spending habits and set specific monthly budgets for different categories to track spending against planned limits.

To streamline data entry, the application supports bulk transaction imports via CSV files. It also integrates with external sync providers such as SimpleFIN and LunchFlow, which allow for the automatic synchronization of account balances and transaction history from financial institutions. The tool includes a machine learning component that users can train using their own categorized transaction history to automatically predict categories for new entries. Additionally, users can create automatic rules to update transactions based on specific criteria like the description, amount, or date.

For long term planning, the software includes a financial goals module where users can set and track progress toward objectives such as paying off debt or saving for a home. Visual insights are provided through customizable trend charts that can be filtered by date range, account, and category. Security is managed through local user authentication with two-factor authentication or via external OIDC login providers. The application is built with internationalization in mind, offering support for English, German, French, and Simplified Chinese, with date and number formats that adjust according to the selected locale.
