Komga is a self-hosted media server designed for managing and reading comics, manga, BDs, magazines, and eBooks. It provides a centralized system to organize digital publications and access them through a web interface, allowing users to maintain a structured digital library with specific tools for metadata management and file organization.

The application is deployed as a server and accessed via a responsive web UI compatible with desktops, tablets, and phones. It functions as a backend for digital reading, enabling the storage of large volumes of graphic novels and magazines while providing a consistent way to track reading progress across different devices.

Built with Kotlin and Spring Boot, Komga follows domain-driven design principles to manage complex library structures. It supports the import of ComicRack cbl read lists and allows for the direct import of books from outside the library into series folders. The server provides the ability to download individual book files, entire series, or curated read lists for offline use. Access control is granular, allowing administrators to set labels restrictions and age-based filters for different users.

Integration is a core part of the system, as the REST API allows various community-developed scripts and tools to interact with the library. By supporting OPDS v1 and v2, the server ensures compatibility with a wide range of third-party e-reader applications. The inclusion of Kobo and KOReader synchronization further extends the utility of the server to dedicated e-ink hardware.

Komga serves as a dedicated document management system for users with large collections of digital comics and eBooks.
