LedgerSMB

LedgerSMB is an open-source application that provides double-entry accounting and enterprise resource planning for small and medium businesses. The software manages core financial operations including quotations, ordering, invoicing, and payments. It includes additional business tools for project tracking, timecards, shipping, and inventory management to help organizations track their operational resources and costs in one place.

The system uses a PostgreSQL database to store data, which allows it to handle thousands of transactions per week without performance degradation. Users can send orders and invoices directly to customers or request quotations from vendors using a built-in email function that supports PDF attachments. This allows business owners to manage their vendor and customer communications from any location using a browser-based interface. Customer-facing documents are fully customizable via templates and can be exported in various formats such as PDF, CSV, HTML, and ODF to meet specific branding or reporting requirements.

LedgerSMB is a server-side application accessed through a web browser. It requires Perl and PostgreSQL on the server. For production environments, it is typically deployed with a web server such as nginx, Apache HTTPd, lighttpd, or Varnish to ensure faster page load times and request responses. It is also available for evaluation via Docker and docker-compose for quick deployment. The application is compatible with major desktop and mobile browsers, including Chrome, Firefox, Edge, and Safari, though HTTPS is recommended for full compatibility with Safari.
