massCode is an open-source desktop app that combines several developer tools into a single workspace. It serves as a centralized hub for managing code snippets, project notes, and API requests. The application is available for macOS, Windows, and Linux as a desktop installation.

Users interact with the software as a local-first desktop app where all data is stored as plain Markdown files on the local disk. This architecture allows for easy synchronization via Git or cloud services like Dropbox, Google Drive, and iCloud. The tool is designed for developers who want to keep their technical documentation, API testing, and utility tools in one place without relying on cloud-based proprietary platforms.

Key features

  • Snippet management with 160+ syntax grammars and integrated Prettier formatting
  • Markdown note taking with task tracking, Mermaid diagrams, and a notes graph
  • HTTP client with environment variables and support for raw HTTP or cURL previews
  • Math notebook for unit conversions, currency exchange, and financial calculations
  • Excalidraw integration for sketching diagrams and wireframes
  • Built-in developer utilities for JSON diffing, hashing, and encoding
  • Keyboard-first command palette for quick navigation across the workspace
  • Import support for folders, collections, and GitHub Gists
  • Browser clipper for saving web content directly into the local vault

The application is built using Electron and Vue. It utilizes a Markdown vault system where snippets, notes, and HTTP requests are stored as files with frontmatter metadata, ensuring data portability and preventing vendor lock-in. The software includes a local Integration API that allows the browser clipper to communicate with the desktop app. To further integrate into existing workflows, massCode provides extensions for VS Code and Raycast, allowing users to access their vault from their primary editor or launcher.

It positions itself as a comprehensive, local-first workspace for developers to organize their technical knowledge and daily utility tasks in a single, portable environment.
