MediaGo is an open-source desktop app that allows users to capture and save video streams from the web. It functions as a cross-platform desktop application that can sniff m3u8 and HLS streams, enabling users to download media without manually configuring packet captures or command-line tools. The application simplifies the process of identifying video sources by allowing users to point the software at a page and select the specific content they wish to save.

The software is available as a desktop installation and can also be deployed as a headless server via Docker for remote access. It includes a bundled browser extension for Chrome and Edge that detects video resources on active pages and sends them directly to the application for downloading. This extension displays a count of detected resources on the toolbar badge for quick identification. The user interface currently supports English, Simplified Chinese, and Italian.

Key features

  • Support for YouTube, Bilibili, and over 1,000 other sites via yt-dlp
  • Browser extension for Chrome and Edge to sniff and send video resources
  • Built-in format conversion to change output quality and file types
  • HTTP API for integration with external scripts and automation tools
  • Docker deployment for headless server use with a web-based UI
  • OpenClaw Skill for initiating downloads via AI coding assistants
  • Multi-architecture support for Intel, AMD, and ARM64 platforms

Built with Electron, MediaGo integrates several backend technologies to handle media scraping and processing. It utilizes a full HTTP API to communicate between the desktop app and the browser extension, a system that is also open to third-party tools and custom scripts for task management. The application includes a built-in video player and a rewritten backend designed to reduce memory usage and improve startup times. For those using server environments, the Docker image is available on both Docker Hub and GHCR, allowing the web UI to be accessed from any device on the same network, including phones and tablets.

MediaGo is a versatile utility for media archiving and research, combining automated sniffing with broad site compatibility.
