Navidrome is an open-source, self-hosted web app and server. It functions as a web-based music collection server and streamer that allows users to access their personal audio libraries from any web browser or mobile device. This software enables the creation of a private streaming service based on locally stored files rather than a subscription model.

The software is deployed as a server and runs on Linux, macOS, and Windows, with official Docker images and binaries available for Raspberry Pi. It manages local music files and streams them to clients, supporting both a built-in web player and third-party mobile applications. This architecture allows for centralized music management while providing remote access across different networks.

Key features

  • Support for very large music collections with low resource usage
  • Compatibility with all Subsonic, Madsonic, and Airsonic clients
  • On the fly transcoding with support for Opus encoding
  • Automatic library monitoring for new files and metadata updates
  • Multi-user support with individual playlists, favorites, and play counts
  • Support for various lyric formats including .lrc, .srt, and embedded tags
  • Handling of compilations and multi-disc box sets
  • Responsive web interface based on Material UI with theme support

Navidrome is designed for users who prefer to own their music files and maintain full control over their data. It reads existing metadata to organize libraries and supports virtually any audio format available. Because it implements the Subsonic API, it integrates with a wide range of existing iOS and Android mobile apps, which removes the need for a proprietary client and allows users to choose their preferred interface. The system is built to be lightweight, making it suitable for low-power hardware like the Raspberry Pi.

It serves as a lightweight media server for individuals seeking a private, self-managed music streaming infrastructure that preserves the organization of their curated collections.
