Speedtest Tracker is a self-hosted web application that monitors internet connection performance and uptime. It automates the process of running speed tests at scheduled intervals to track network stability and speed over time. By capturing data points consistently, the application provides a record of how a connection behaves under different conditions and times of day.

The application is deployed as a containerized service, making it compatible with any environment that supports Docker. It is specifically designed for deployment on home servers and NAS platforms such as Synology and Unraid. Users access the monitoring interface through a web browser to view the current state of their network and review historical performance logs.

Key features

  • Scheduled automated speed tests to monitor performance over time
  • Tracking of download and upload speeds
  • Measurement of ping and packet loss
  • Historical data visualization to identify network patterns
  • Notification alerts when performance drops below defined thresholds
  • Multi-language support with community translations via Crowdin
  • Integration with various notification channels for issue alerts

Built with the Laravel framework, the application captures concrete metrics to help users identify intermittent connectivity issues or ISP performance degradation. It utilizes the speedtest-cli to gather data and stores this information in a database for long-term trend analysis. The system allows for custom configurations to tailor the testing frequency and notification triggers to specific network requirements. This architecture ensures that the monitoring process remains independent of manual intervention, providing a continuous stream of data regarding network health.

Beyond basic speed measurements, the application focuses on uptime and reliability. By setting specific thresholds for performance, users can be alerted immediately when a connection fails or slows down significantly. This makes it a useful tool for documenting service level agreement violations or troubleshooting hardware issues within a local network.

This tool is intended for users who require consistent visibility into their network infrastructure and connection reliability.
