SpotMenu is an open-source macos app that serves as a minimalist utility for macOS that brings music playback information and controls directly into the system menu bar. Users install the application via GitHub Releases or Homebrew to keep track of their current audio without switching windows or bringing the full music application to the foreground.

The application supports multiple music services, allowing users to monitor artist and song titles in real time. It provides a native UI built with Swift and SwiftUI, offering a hover overlay for quick interactions and global keyboard shortcuts for playback management. The tool is designed to operate in the background, updating automatically as tracks change across the supported platforms.

The application integrates with a Developer API to enable track liking and unliking. This requires the user to create a developer app on the provider dashboard and provide a Client ID within the preferences. The software includes a detailed preferences menu where users can adjust the visual appearance of the player overlay, such as hover tint colors, foreground colors, and opacity. Users can also configure the menu bar to show or hide specific icons, such as the playing icon or the liked icon, and set a maximum width between 40 and 300 points.
