WYGIWYH is a self-hosted web application for tracking personal finances. It follows a principles-first approach to money management, focusing on the core philosophy of using current monthly earnings for current expenses while tracking savings as separate, untouchable assets. This method avoids the constraints of traditional budgeting in favor of straightforward income and expense monitoring, allowing users to maintain a clear view of their financial standing without strict pre-defined limits.

The application is deployed as a server-side web app, primarily utilizing Docker and docker-compose for installation. It provides a centralized interface to record transactions and monitor balances across various financial accounts, such as bank accounts, digital wallets, and investment portfolios. Users can manage their data locally on a desktop or host it on a server for remote access via a web browser, ensuring that financial records remain under their own control.

Key features

  • Unified transaction tracking for all income and expenses
  • Support for multiple accounts including banks, wallets, and investments
  • Multi-currency support for managing balances in different currencies
  • Ability to create custom currencies for crypto or reward points
  • Automated transaction adjustments using customizable rules
  • Built-in dollar-cost averaging tracker for recurring investments

It includes a dedicated API to allow for automation and integration with external tools, making it suitable for users who want to programmatically sync their financial data or build custom workflows. The architecture is flexible enough to support deployment on various platforms, including a dedicated template for Unraid users.
